Davorin calls this little pot an "Elf". It is pretty cute. This black morta pipe featured a vulcanite steam and an ivory-like insert.
All of Davorin's pipes ships with a leather bag.
Davorin Djenovic is the premier pipe maker using Morta wood. Croatia, Davorin’s home, is one of the few places in the world where Morta can be found in sufficient quantity and quality for making smoking pipes.
But what is Morta? It is Oak that has been submerged in bogs for thousands of years. The wood is semi-petrified, the water exchanges minerals for the tannins and sap in the wood over the centuries. Morta has a few other names as well, Bog Oak and Abonos being the most common.
So how does Morta work as a pipe? Think of it as a blend between meerschaum and briar. Morta smokes similar to meerschaum but it is a strong material like briar. Mort and meerschaum do not impart their own taste to the tobacco like a briar pipe can. Breaking in a Morta pipe is easier than with a briar due to the hardness of the Morta.
